Towards Climate and Environmental Justice

The Zambia Climate Change Network is designed to support the adoption of climate change strategies in Zambia through collaborative efforts and the practical experiences of Network members across sectors. The Network derives its mandate from the Zambian Governments accession to various environment, natural resources and climate change global agreements for mitigation climate change building resilience through adaptation through livelihoods and production systems. As a civil society organisation ZCCN is member driven and registered under the Registrar of Societies with a strong ambition to increase membership and to reach Zambians affected by climate change.

In order to implement its mandate, the ZCCN is looking for a qualified, experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of National Coordinator under the Networks Secretariat in Lusaka.

Reporting to the Board, the National Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of activities of the ZCCN. The National Coordinator shall also be responsible for overseeing of the Secretariat. He/she shall be responsible for resource mobilisation, ensuring meaningful membership growth and quality implementation of programme interventions of the Secretariat in collaboration with Network members in the realization for the Networks mandate.

Under the auspices of the Network Board, the National Coordinators key responsibilities shall be:

  • Lead overall coordination of the Network members, building their capacities and enhancing collaboration;
  • Lead donor engagements and develop bankable proposals to mobilize resources for Network activities;
  • Maintain good working relationships among network members including the Ministry of Green Environment and Economy and other relevant ministries, donors and technical supporters to the Network;
  • Lead the assessment of members capacity needs on climate mitigation and adaptation and lead coordination of capacity building to support member organisations;
  • Raise the profile and visibility of the Network through media engagements and proper use of IEC materials;
  • Ensure Network representation on relevant climate change related standing committees and at relevant meetings and events;
  • Coordinate the compilation of narrative and financial reports to meet internal and donor reporting requirements;
  • Develop terms of reference for staff and short-term consultants engaged of specific assignments for the network;
  • Coordinate the hosting of Secretariat monthly, quarterly and annual planning and review meetings;
  • Monitor progress and implementation of the Networks annual plans;
    Act as secretariat to the Network board meetings, general assemblies and any other meeting called by the Network Board;
  • Provide oversight and leadership to staff recruited under the Network Secretariat including Finance and Administration, programmes, monitoring and evaluation and communication staff;

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Preferably a Masters level degree in Climate Change, Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, Development, Economics or related field;
  2. Training in leadership and management
    Computer literacy-proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Web conferencing applications
  3. Knowledge and Experience:
  4. At least five (5) years’ experience designing and or implementing development programmes particularly those related to environment and natural resources and agriculture;
  5. Strong understanding of climate change and its impacts on various stakeholders;
  6. A good working knowledge of climate mitigations and adaptation approached;
  7. Proven experience in resource mobilisation through donor engagement and developing bankable proposals;
  8. Strategic thinker, able to analyze and scan the external environment to determine impactful actions for the Network;
  9. Ability to work independently and self-driven in a fast-paced environment with time bound deliverables;
  10. Ability to think, plan and execute resourcefully, creatively and transparently with limited supervision;
  11. Knowledge of financial and procurement procedures;
  12. Proven experience in strategic programme oversight and coordination of projects;
  13. Proven experience in advocacy actions with strong ability to engage with the media and public;
  14. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including reporting, facilitation and representation;
  15. Experience in managing network organisations
