Scaw Limited is a Copperbelt-based manufacturing Company established in 1960 specializing in the manufacturing of grinding media, castings products and industrial oxygen and acetylene.

The Company seeks to employ a suitably qualified, experienced and result oriented individual to fill up the below position on a two-year contract renewable depending on individual performance: –

1.    SENIOR HEAD – INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS (1)

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead the development and delivery of employee relations strategies to create and sustain a healthy work culture and team spirit needed for outstanding business performance.  The role requires a high calibre individual with energy, resilience and strong negotiation and people skills to build positive relations between employees and management and between the Company and its external key stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Designs and delivers industrial relations (IR) strategies with the key focus on remodeling Trade Union-Management interface; owns and develops the relationship with Senior Officials and Trade Unions and between the two stakeholders.
  • Designs, develops and implements employee relations (ER) policy, processes and procedures to create sense of belonging and teamwork at all levels of the organization; monitors and evaluates the implementation of the policy to continually improve Employee Relations.
  • Sets direction for Union-Management negotiations and offers expert advice in all matters relating to collective bargaining and industrial relations issues.
  • Ensures accurate implementation of compensation and benefits policy to contribute to sustainable employee morale for work; in collaboration with finance, supervises proactive and prompt resolution of staff pay queries to minimize payroll processing costs and sustain employee morale.

  • Builds appropriate skills, attitudes, capabilities and code of ethics for improving industrial relations across all departments, including knowledge of labour legislations; coordinates and integrates all industrial relations activities across the business into a coherent and dynamic plan.
  • Develops and fosters distinct company culture, values, image and branding that promote internal and public goodwill towards the Company and inspire employees and management to serve with commitment, loyalty and clear vision; works hand in hand with the Public Relations (PR) function to develop a dynamic stakeholder communication strategy with the support of intranet and internet tools.
  • Supervises and monitors employee welfare services.
  • Monitors the quality of industrial relations periodically using software platforms; analyses data to recommend improvements to industrial relations. Also responsible for updating the changes to labour laws, arbitration/court decisions and anything else that may affect union-management relations or employee-management relations.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce attendance policies and procedures in line with company goals and regulations and provide guidance and support to employees regarding attendance policies, procedures, and related inquiries.
  • Monitor and track employee attendance, including tardiness, absenteeism, and leaves of absence by way of tracking systems to maintain accurate records and generate reports for management review.
  • Analyze attendance data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement and collaborate with department managers to address attendance issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Key Requirements:

  • Grade Twelve (12) Certificate with a minimum of 5 Credits
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management from a recognised university
  • Minimum of Ten (10) Years’ experience preferably in the Mining Sector.
  • Membership: Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management (ZIHRM) with a valid practicing certificate for 2024.

Work Hours: Minimum of 8 hours with frequent outside office activities with external partners.
