The Zambian Open University (ZAOU) is an institution of high standing both locally and
internationally, whose vision is “to be an internationally recognized University providing quality education through full-time, Open and distance, and blended learning’’. We are currently recruiting for two (2) positions: Systems Administrator and IT Support Engineer.

Position Title: Systems Administrator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator to manage our organization’s IT infrastructure, with a focus on supporting learning management systems (LMS) and Student record management systems (SRMS). The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our hardware, software, and network systems, as well as ensuring the smooth operation of our LMS and SRMS platforms. This role involves troubleshooting issues, implementing enhancements, and providing technical support to end-users.
Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and software applications, with a particular emphasis on supporting learning management systems and record management systems.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to Learning
    Management System Student Record Management Systems, and other IT systems to ensure optimal operation.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights for LMS and SRMS platforms.
  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions for LMS and SRMS data.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to implement upgrades and enhancements to LMS and SRMS platforms.
  • Ensure security of LMS, SRMS, and other IT systems by implementing best practices and security measures.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for LMS, SRMS, and other IT systems.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users, including training and troubleshooting for LMS and SRMS platforms.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in system administration, particularly as they relate to LMS and SRMS technologies.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff and departments to support IT initiatives and projects.
  • Develop and edit the institution website using any web development tools

Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role, with demonstrated proficiency in supporting learning management systems and record management systems.
  • Proficiency in administering Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems
    Administrator) are a plus.

2. Position Title: IT Support Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a proactive and customer-oriented IT Support Engineer to join our
team. The IT Support Engineer will be responsible for providing technical assistance and support to end-users within our organization. This role involves diagnosing and resolving IT issues, installing and configuring hardware and software, and ensuring the smooth operation of our IT systems.

Responsibilities.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end users via phone, email, or in person.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to Learning
    Management System Student Record Management Systems, and other IT systems to ensure optimal operation.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights for LMS and SRMS platforms.
  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions for LMS and SRMS data.
  • Perform system and software updates, patches, and upgrades.
  • Ensure data security and integrity by implementing security measures and backup solutions.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of IT assets, configurations, and support requests.
  • Assist in the procurement and deployment of IT equipment and software.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff and departments to implement IT projects and initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on IT systems and applications.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in IT support.
  • Develop and edit the institution website using any web development tools.

Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in IT support or a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Mac operating systems.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, protocols, and technologies.
  •  Experience with troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Customer-focused attitude with a commitment to providing exceptional service.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician) are a plus.
