Job Purpose:

The Country Manager is responsible for providing end to end leadership in country with a strong focus on achieving commercial targets, and building operational excellence across the entire value chain. This role is responsible for crafting the market strategy in collaboration with the Chief Commercial Officer and the Chief Executive Officer, and effectively cascading this strategy to the in-country team and implementing the same. This role will drive sustainable business growth and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve desired business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy (20%):

  • Ensure implementation of the overall growth strategy for the country in line with business requirements.
  • Monitor the external and operating environments for shifts or trends that may provide opportunities or threats for the region and provide mitigation recommendations.
  • Prepare and present robust business case justification for new opportunities through market intelligence with a view on expected returns.
  • Identify and engage potential business partners in the country to manage company risk
  • Develop solid relationships with all regulatory authorities in the country and ensure strict adherence to governing policies to mitigate missteps, potential penalties and reputation damage.
  • Formulate strategies to minimize loss of existing revenue streams.
  • Identify new and innovative revenue streams to financially enhance the business
  • Gather and report business intelligence to proactively address requirements in the country.
  • Perform market intelligence and timely sharing of critical information about the country to management and facilitate decision making and feed into strategy to grow both volumes and margins in focus area.

Business Development & Operational Excellence (40%):

  • Drive the achievement of approved volumes, revenues and gross margins and ensure monthly reporting on business performance
  • Undertake supply chain analysis of various modes of transport to inform investment decisions that will drive competitiveness in the region to effectively deliver business objectives.
  • Development of country business plans and consistent tracking of opportunities identified until they are delivered.
  • Participate in capex planning and post implementation reviews of all new opportunities delivered in the country to track sales, profitability and ROI targets and give recommendations to positively impact business.
  • Develop a Leads/opportunity tracker for potential business in the country and share monthly updates with Management.
  • Work with PR and Marketing teams to develop marketing materials aligned to planned products and customer value proposition targeting the identified markets.
  • Coordinate with Supply and Finance teams to ensure they provide for potential business in their respective plans.
  • Oversee accounting and maintenance of all new assets that the company deploys in the country.
  • Recommend CSR activities that ensure we build a sustainable community as well as positively project the company image.
  • Ensure that all the support required by the country to achieve target are provided adequately whilst ensuring adherence to all policy matters.
  • Build and Maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the country to facilitate profitable partnerships.
  • Guide and support affiliates in the region to generate and close business opportunities in specific country including bids and tenders participation and ensure we protect existing business whilst trying to grow footprint.
  • Monitor new and existing markets profitability and make recommendations to optimize it by reviewing, product pricing, supply chain and opex management for business sustainability.
  • Oversee the contract renewals process, ensuring on-target retention of existing clients in the region.

Compliance (20%):

  • Full compliance with the company Business Principles, Policies, processes and Standards.
  • Map all risk for the country that will eventually feed in the Company risk based Audit Matrix.
  • Ensure Full compliance with Country Laws and other regulatory requirements governing sales, supplies, distribution, aviation and administration.

Leadership & People Management (20%):

  • Manage, train, up-skill, motivate and retain a high performing team.
  • Establish clear functional structure and succession plans aligned with appropriate responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • Define relevant metrics to effectively measure the performance of the team and provide coaching and performance feedback to all team members.
  • Maintain close working relationships with key internal stakeholder; Supply & Logistics, Finance, Engineering, P&C etc.
  • Facilitate deployment to right skills and resources to support the operations in the country.
  • Formulate relevant programs to ensure that the skills and experience of team are consistent with business needs for providing quality for present and future services and are aligned to personal development plans.
  • Undertake performance reviews for the team on an annual basis ensuring feedback on performance is given at regular intervals throughout the year.
  • Participate in the performance review process and personal development planning for self and team.

Skills and Experience required for this role:

  • University Degree in a business-related field,
  • Post graduate degree MBA will be an added advantage,
  • Over 5 years’ experience in a Business Development or Sales role,
  • Proven experience and track record in Business Development/Sales.
  • Experience or strong understanding of the petroleum industry is a must.
  • Proficiency in MS office applications.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of depot operations and maintenance and aviation sales/operations is desired.
